Heat oil in a large pot over medium high heat and add yellow onion. Sauté until soft, about 3 minutes. Add in the garlic and thyme and cook for an additional minute (do not let the garlic brown.)
Add in the broth and carrots and bring to a boil. Stir in beans and turkey. Lower heat, cover, and simmer until beans are heated through, about 5 minutes. If soup gets too thick add hot water or extra broth to thin.
