Cut chicken into bite-size pieces. Halve sausage lengthwise and cut into 1/2-inch slices. In a 3 1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker combine chicken, sausage, sweet pepper, celery, and onion. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tapioca, basil, and cayenne pepper.
Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6 to 8 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 to 4 hours.
If using low-heat setting, turn to high-heat setting. Stir in shrimp and okra. Cover and cook for 30 minutes more or until shrimp turn opaque. Serve with hot cooked rice if desired.
