dLife Cautions People with Diabetes about Change in Daylight Savings Time
Turning back clocks can cause havoc---be prepared
October 23, 2006 (Westport, CT) -- In response to the change in daylight savings time on Sunday, October 29 at 2:00 AM (when clocks are turned back one hour) dLife cautions all people with diabetes to be prepared. “People with diabetes manage by the clock. It is critically important for them to be mindful what impact time change has on their daily management”, said dLife Founder Howard Steinberg who has had Type 1 diabetes for 38 years. “It is important to make sure that display times on both blood glucose monitors and insulin pumps are reset. Those with diabetes should also keep an eye on their blood sugars, which can be affected from the time change.”
When the clocks turn back this weekend:
- Closely monitor your blood sugars to detect any highs or lows due to the time change.
- Make sure you update the time on your pump and/or continuous glucose monitor.
- Be sure to update the time on your handheld glucose meter.
- Check your diabetes supply stockpile.
- Check your batteries.
The time change can sometimes impact your diabetes management. The best prevention is to be prepared. Take control of your diabetes and enjoy that extra hour of sleep! Go to www.dLife.com for further information.
