The orange fruits and vegetables that come into season this time of year cast a ray of sunshine into dull, brown winter. They brighten both the palate (taste buds) and the palette (array of colors). Oranges, carrots, and winter squash are also diabetes-friendly. They're good sources of fiber and relatively low in carbohydrates. Plus, orange plant foods are rich in carotenoids, like beta-carotene, which may help guard against heart disease, along with certain cancers, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration.
