Richard R. Crater Joins Joslin Diabetes Center as Chief Financial Officer
Former NYU, Mass General Financial Executive Brings Deep Expertise to Preeminent Diabetes Center
BOSTON March 19, 2009 Joslin Diabetes Center today announced Richard R. Crater as chief financial officer. Crater brings to Joslin more than 30 years of experience, including positions as chief financial officer at New York University Medical Center and The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).
In his new role, Crater will be responsible for overall financial management and operational planning at the Joslin.
Richard is well-known as one of the true leaders in the finance of academic medicine, and Im delighted hes joined us, said Ranch C. Kimball, President and CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center. Working closely with me, our Board of Trustees and the Joslin leadership team, Richard will play a major role as we accelerate our efforts to speed the worlds path to a cure for diabetes.
In todays challenging economic times, independent institutions like Joslin face special challenges, said Crater. I want to help lift Joslin to reach its full potential by creating a financially secure future for the institution.
Crater said he is excited about the opportunity to help the Joslin deliver on its commitment to excellence in diabetes research, care and education.
In light of todays global diabetes pandemic, Joslins vision for a world without the disease has never been more meaningful, and that is a powerful thing to be part of, he said.
Crater spent 10 years at New York University Medical Center, most recently as corporate chief financial officer. Before going to New York, he was at MGH from 1986 to 1998, where he held increasingly responsible positions in financial leadership, including vice president of administration, vice president of finance, chief operating officer and executive vice president.
He holds a bachelors degree from Duke University and an MBA from the Boston University Graduate School of Management.
