August 2014 Events

August 1-August 31 – Caring and Sharing Weekend | Pump Pouches for Kids

The primary mission of the Double H Ranch is to provide specialized camping and year round services for children and families dealing with life-threatening illnesses in order to enrich their lives and provide experiences that are memorable, empowering, fun, physically safe, and medically sound while offered in a magical Adirondack setting.

Their goal has always been to help families enjoy all the wonderful things that childhood has to offer. With the daily stress of living with diabetes, Double H Ranch wants to be able to provide a haven for families to take a breath and enjoy time with each other, along with an opportunity to make friends. They understand the high cost of diabetes and the many life changes that occur and would like to offer 15 families the ability to come to this ranch and have fun and make friends.

The entire camp experience is free. Campers must however provide their own transportation. This is a truly remarkable camp that engages families in a once in a lifetime experience. If you would like to recommend a family, please fill out an application and send it in by October 31st of 2014.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, one of the benefits that made it cost-effective for me to go with the real healthcare (HSA) plan rather than the phony (HRA) plan is that my company is now covering "preventative" medicines at $0 copay. The formulary for these, as stated by CVS/Caremark (my pharmacy benefits provider), covers all test strips, lancets, and control solutions. I dutifully get my doctor to write up prescriptions for all of my testing needs, submit...
