Are You at Risk for Stroke?

Stroke
Stroke is among the leading causes of death in the United States. Strokes, sometimes called "brain attacks," occur when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked. Almost 800,000 people in the United States have a stroke every year, with over 600,000 of those being first-time attacks. The risk of stroke and rates of heart disease are about 2-4 times higher in people with diabetes than without. 15-30 percent of stroke survivors remain permanently disabled afterwards. Prevention is key: maintaining a healthy lifestyle can reduce your risk of stroke by up to 80 percent. Although strokes can occur in anyone at any age, certain risk factors -- including having diabetes -- can make you more likely to have a stroke. Take this quiz to help determine your risk.
