If you recently had surgery, your doctor has probably told you to Walk, Walk, Walk. Walking has many benefits, such as improving your blood glucose, your bowels, your mood, your blood pressure, and more. Sometimes it's hard to know how much to walk to regain your strength, so talk with your health care provider about a goal that's real for you.
When you walk, wear a pedometer. A pedometer is a little meter about the size of a matchbox that you wear on your waist that counts the number of steps you take. They are available at most pharmacies. Everyone's goal is different. Some people start at 500 steps per day and increase daily by 500 steps until they reach their goal. Once you reach your goal, try to walk that much every day.
