1 1/2 cup  canned sliced beets
1 each  bay leaves
4 each  whole cloves
4 each  whole allspice
1 each  medium grapefruit
1 oz  Equal packets
  1. Drain beets, reserving 1/2 cup of liquid.
  2. In small saucepan, mix beet liquid, bay leaf, cloves, and allspice.
  3. Bring to boil, then reduce heat. Simmer 5 minutes. Let cool to room temperature.
  4. In large bowl, place beets and grapefruit.
  5. Strain sauce through fine sieve or cheesecloth. Add sweetener and stir to mix well.
  6. Pour sauce over beets and grapefruit. Cover and marinate for at least 1 hour. Drain liquid. Serve.
