0 1/2 cup  sugar
0.3333 cup  cold water
15 1/4 oz  Pineapple, crushed, canned, with water
1 1/4 cup  low fat buttermilk
0 1/4 cup  orange juice
11 oz  mandarin oranges, canned, with juice, drained
Directions
  1. Combine sugar and water in a pot and bring to a boil, mixing until sugar is fully mixed in. Let cool to room temperature.
  2. Using a food processor or blender, puree pineapple, buttermilk, sugar mixture, and orange juice until smooth. Freeze in ice cream maker following manufacturer's directions, mixing in oranges just before sherbet is fully frozen.
  3. Or, spoon mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish and freeze until slushy, about 2 hours. Spoon mixture into a bowl and beat until fluffy, then mix in oranges, pour back into pan and freeze another 6 hours or overnight.
