  1. Put the broccoli and 1 teaspoon of water in a microwave proof bowl. Cook, covered, for 1 minute on a high setting. Drain and run under cold water.
  2. Cook the pasta according to the directions on the package. Drain, but reserve 2 tablespoons of the pasta water.
  3. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet. Cook the garlic and mushrooms for 2 minutes over medium high heat.
  4. Stir in the broccoli and cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Combine the pasta, broccoli mixture, and the reserved pasta water. Toss to mix. Heat over medium heat until the water has absorbed.
  6. Separate the pasta onto two bowls and sprinkle the cheese on top.
