1 each  whole roasting chicken, without skin
1 each  cooking spray
1 tsp  dried basil
0 1/4 tsp  salt
0.125 tsp  black pepper
  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Take out giblets and neck from chicken and cut off any excess fat. Run chicken under cold water and let dry.
  3. Lay chicken, breast side up on a broiler pan. Spray chicken with cooking spray and season with dried herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Roast for 30 minutes. Lower oven temperature to 400 degrees F and roast another 45 minutes or until a meat thermometer reads at least 180 degrees F.
