1 cup  long grain brown rice
1 tsp  sesame oil
1 tsp  fresh ginger root
1 each  medium garlic cloves
1 tsp  Chinese 5-spice powder
0 1/4 tsp  salt
1 1/2 cup  cold water
0 1/4 cup  Chinese rice wine
1 pinch  low sodium soy sauce
  1. Warm the oil in a medium saucepan and add the ginger, garlic, and five-spice powder. Saute for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  2. Add the rice and salt and saute for another 2 minutes, continuing to stir. Add the water and sherry or rice wine, cover, bring to a boil, and then gently simmer for about 40 minutes, until all of the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. Add soy sauce to taste and serve.
