  1. Put the chopped onion, garlic, parsley, turmeric, ginger, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice into a blender and process until almost smooth.
  2. Place chicken in a large freezer bag with a seal and add marinade from blender, shake to coat evenly, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  3. In a large pot, put the chicken with the marinade, and then add in the chicken broth, cinnamon stick, and bay leaf, bring to a boil.
  4. Lower heat, cover and simmer until chicken is tender, about 40 minutes.
  5. Add in the chickpeas, sliced onion, and raisins and cook an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Throw out cinnamon stick and bay leaf and serve.
