1 tbsp  extra virgin olive oil
1 each  large onion
1 each  medium garlic cloves
14 oz  canned garbanzo beans (chickpeas), unsalted
1 cup  bread crumbs
1 each  eggs
1 pinch  black pepper
1 tbsp  chickpea flour
1 tsp  olive oil
  1. In a large frying pan over low heat, heat the 1 tablespoon of oil and cook the onion and garlic until golden, roughly 5 minutes.
  2. Blend the chickpeas in a food processor and puree until they resemble breadcrumbs.
  3. Add the fresh breadcrumbs, egg, pepper, then the onion and garlic, and process for a few seconds, just to combine the ingredients. If the mixture is two wet, add the chickpea flour to thicken.
  4. To prepare the burgers, use 1 heaping tablespoon of the mixture to make roughly 8 total burgers.
  5. Separately, mix the chermoula with water and then brush the burgers generously with the chermoula. Allow the burgers to marinate for approximately 20 minutes.
  6. When ready to cook, heat the 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a nonstick frying pan or griddle and cook the burgers over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until browned. Don't have the heat too high, or they will burn, and the flavor will spoil.
