7 cup  cold water
1 lb  dried yellow split peas
1 tsp  salt
0 1/4 tsp  black pepper
3 each  medium carrots
2 each  Celery, stalk, medium, 7.5" - 8" long, fresh
1 each  medium onions
2 lb  raw ham shank
  1. Mix all ingredients besides the ham in a slow cooker, approximately 4 to 5 quarts. Add ham.
  2. Cook covered on low heat for 8 to 10 hours.
  3. When ready, remove ham from the cooker and pull meat from bones by using two forks. Discard the bones and skin.
  4. Stir ham into soup and serve.
