1 cup  long grain brown rice
1 cup  fat free reduced sodium chicken broth
1 cup  cold water
1 each  cinnamon sticks
1 each  bay leaves
0 1/4 tsp  salt
0 1/4 tsp  ground turmeric
2 tbsp  slivered almonds
  1. Rinse the rice several times before cooking.
  2. In a 2-quart saucepan, over medium-high heat, bring the broth and water to a boil.
  3. Stir in the rice, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and salt, and reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes.
  4. Lightly stir in the turmeric using a fork, and cook, covered, over low heat for 10 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  5. Remove the cinnamon stick and bay leaf, and sprinkle with the almonds just before serving.
