6 each  medium oranges
0 3/4 cup  cold water
0 3/4 cup  red wine
0 1/2 cup  sugar
2 each  whole cloves
1 piece  ginger root, fresh, 2" knob
1 each  cinnamon sticks
2 cup  fresh sliced strawberries
  1. Cut oranges into 1/8-inch-thick slices after peeling. Remove seeds.
  2. Add water, wine, sugar, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain mixture, add orange slices and chill covered.
  5. Stir halved strawberries into mixture before serving.
