2 tbsp  olive oil
2 each  medium garlic cloves
0 1/2 cup  barley, pearl
1 cup  tap water
0 3/4 lb  lean ground beef (10% fat)
1 tbsp  steak sauce
1 tsp  Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp  salt
0 1/2 oz  black pepper
1 each  eggs
1 each  fresh avocado
2 tbsp  fresh lemon juice
1 tsp  garlic salt
0 1/4 tsp  chili sauce
6 each  whole wheat hamburger buns
6 piece  fresh romaine leaves
1 each  medium tomatoes
Directions
  1. In 1-quart saucepan heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in barley; brown for 2 minutes, stirring.
  4. Add water and bring to boil.
  5. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook 35 minutes. Cool.
  6. In large mixing bowl combine cold barley, ground beef, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Mix to combine.
  7. Add egg and mix until mixture is blended.
  8. Form into 6 patties.
  9. In large skillet heat remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium high heat.
  10. Add patties and cook for 4 minutes per side.
  11. In the meantime, combine avocado, garlic salt and chili sauce in bowl. Coarsely mash and set aside.
  12. To assemble hamburgers, spread base of each bun with avocado mixture. Top with lettuce leaf, tomato slice, burger and another spoonful of avocado mixture. Place on top of bun and serve.
