10 oz  Cherries, maraschino, red, with juice & stems
3 each  eggs
0 1/2 cup  sugar
0.125 tsp  salt
3 cup  whole milk
1 tsp  vanilla extract
1 cup  half & half
0 1/2 cup  rum
1 pinch  ground nutmeg
  1. Drain cherries, reserving juice; set aside. Mix eggs, sugar and salt in heavy 2-quart saucepan.
  2. Stir in milk. Cook over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often, or until heated through.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir in reserved cherry juice and vanilla.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  5. Just before serving, stir in half and half and rum.
  6. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve immediately.
  7. Garnish each serving with a stemmed cherry.
