1 cup  Peas, green, split, dry
6 cups  low sodium chicken broth
1 cup  sliced carrots
1 cup  fresh chopped onion
1 cup  fresh chopped celery
0 1/4 cup  Barley, hulled, dry
2 tsp  crushed garlic
1 tsp  ground thyme
0 3/4 tsp  dried marjoram
1 each  bay leaf
0 1/4 tsp  black pepper
  1. In wire strainer, rinse peas under cool water.
  2. In stockpot, place peas and all remaining ingredients. Bring to boil over high heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 1 hour until the barley is tender, peas are soft, and soup is thick. If necessary, thin soup by adding 1 tablespoon of water at a time until desired consistency is reached. Remove bay leaf before serving.
