28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
14.5 floz canned unsalted diced tomatoes , drained slightly
14.5 floz canned unsalted diced tomatoes , with liquid
1 lb extra lean ground beef (5% fat)
3 tsp minced garlic , or to taste
3 tsp dried basil , or to taste
1 tsp chopped parsley , or to taste (optional)
2 tbsp unsalted tomato paste (optional)


Directions
1 Put 4 cups of water on the stove to boil.
2 While water is boiling, brown meat in saucepan. When meat is browned, remove from pan and put in strainer in the sink.
3 After water comes to full boil, pour over meat to remove fat. Let drain.
4 Wipe inside of saucepan out with paper towels to remove any fat.
5 While meat is draining, put remaining ingredients into saucepan and heat. After meat has drained, return to saucepan.
6 Simmer until ready to serve. Tomato paste may be added to thicken sauce to desired consistency. Serve over pasta.


Additional Information
The fat, cholesterol and calories are actually lower than the given values if you drain the meat with the boiling water.
