1 cup long grain brown rice , uncooked (or other long grain rice)
1 cup fat free reduced sodium chicken broth
1 cup cold water
1 cinnamon sticks
1 bay leaves
0.25 tsp salt (optional)
0.25 tsp ground turmeric (or saffron)
2 tbsp slivered almonds , dry-roasted


Directions
1 Rinse the rice several times before cooking.
2 In a 2-quart saucepan, over medium-high heat, bring the broth and water to a boil.
3 Stir in the rice, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and salt, and reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes.
4 Lightly stir in the turmeric using a fork, and cook, covered, over low heat for 10 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
5 Remove the cinnamon stick and bay leaf, and sprinkle with the almonds just before serving.
