Traditional homemade eggnog blushes with maraschino cherries.

Servings

10 oz Cherries, maraschino, red, with juice & stems
3 raw large eggs , slightly beaten
0.5 cup sugar
0.12 tsp salt
3 cup whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup Cream, half & half (or fat-free half-and-half)
0.5 cup rum (optional)
1 pinch ground nutmeg

1 Drain cherries, reserving juice; set aside.
2 Mix eggs, sugar and salt in heavy 2-quart saucepan. Stir in milk. Cook over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often, or until heated through.
3 Remove from heat. Stir in reserved cherry juice and vanilla.
4 Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Just before serving, stir in half-and-half and rum.
5 Sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve immediately. Garnish each serving with a stemmed cherry.
