Servings
Ingredients
3.5 cup Flour, bread, unenriched
0.75 tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
4 tsp anise seed
1 package baker's yeast (rapid-rise)
1 cup cold water , very warm (plus 2 Tbsp)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp brandy
0.5 tsp vanilla extract
1 cooking spray
1 tsp cold water
1 egg whites , lightly beaten
2 tbsp Sugar, turbinado


Directions
1 Place the flour, salt, sugar, anise seeds, and yeast into a food processor and pulse 6 times or until blended.
2 Add the warm water, olive oil, brandy, and vanilla while the processor is spinning and continue processing until dough forms a ball.
3 Knead dough on a floured surface 5 times.
4 Coat a large bowl with cooking spray and add the dough. Cover and let rise for 40 minutes in a warm place.
5 Roll dough out into a 24 x 7-inch rectangle and cut into 24 sticks.
6 Roll out each stick to 15 inches.
7 Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray and place the sticks on the sheet.
8 Let rise again for 15 minutes, covered, in a warm place.
9 Mix together the egg white and water and brush over breadsticks then sprinkle on the turbinado sugar.
10 Bake breadsticks for 13 minutes at 400 degrees F.
