Servings
Ingredients
2 cup white all purpose flour
0.5 cup sugar
2.5 tsp anise seed
0.75 tsp low sodium baking powder
0.25 tsp salt
3 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs , lightly beaten
1 cooking spray
1 tsp water
1 egg whites , lightly beaten
1.5 tbsp turbinado sugar


Directions
1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2 Mix together flour, sugar, anise seeds, baking powder, and salt. Whisk oil with vanilla and eggs and gradually add to flour mixture.
3 Flip dough onto a cooking spray coated baking sheet and form into a 12-inch log about 1/2-inch thick.
4 Whisk together water and egg and brush over top of dough.
5 Bake for 20 minutes.
6 Take log off of baking sheet and let cool on a wire rack.
7 Slice log into 26 pieces and lay cut sides down in a baking sheet. Brush again with egg mixture and top with sugar.
8 Bake 20 more minutes. Let cool.


Additional Information
1 1/2 tablespoons of granulated sugar can be substituted for turbinado sugar.
