In a citrus salad containing grapefruit and oranges, is there any tasty substitute for the grapefruit?

Grapefruit upsets my stomach as well as interferring with medications. Lemons and limes are way too tart. Should I just double up on the oranges or maybe use different varieties of oranges?

Dear rubybenubi ,

Thank you for writing dLife!

Yuzu and Iyokan are two Japanese citrus fruits similar in flavor to grapefruit. These fruits contain low levels of the chemical found in grapefruit that interferes with your medications.

Using different varieties of oranges, such as navel oranges and blood oranges, can also make a colorful and flavorful citrus fruit salad.

You could try Cara Cara oranges, which have a lovely pink color, and are slightly sweeter than standard navel oranges. The pink contrasting with the regular oranges would be an attractively colorful alternative to grapefruit ... :)
