This is a very complex question to answer not knowing the rest of your medical history. Firstly, I would ask if you lost a lot of weight since your initial diagnosis; that may explain the good control without meds currently. I would also want to know what you last A1C was. If you are going to your doctor regularly and your A1C is good; you are doing well. As far as what to expect next; diabetes is truly a bit unpredictable. You may lose some ability to make sufficient insulin to support your bodies' needs over time, but this varies from patient to patient. Enjoy the present and your current state of health!! No one knows the future, but keep checking your blood sugars at home. Good luck, and stay healthy!
