directions say met/glipizide1/2 hour before meals. How important is that 1/2 hour? is it wasted if I take it at the time of the meal?

500mg metformin and 10mg glipizide twice daily. 20 units of lantus before bed each day. Lantus started two months ago when fasting readings was running 165-175. fasting readings in morning are now down to average of 225. bg rarely drops below 200. health care provided by the VA. They don't seem to have my interest at heart, but it's the best I can do at this time.

For metformin and glipizide the timing before meals is not that critical. That is probably not why your blood sugars are still running high. I would advise you to test 2 hours after meals as well as before meals to get more information for your health care team to be able to adjust your meds.
