Type 2 since 1994. Was on Max dose of both Lantus and metformin and still had an A1C if 7.4. Started an alternative medicine l lifestyle of eating and within a month was able to reduce meds taken. After 1 year I am off all meds. My doctors answer to why he didn't advocate this diet was " it hasn't been approved through testing????? My last A1C was 6.2?????? My complete blood profile was perfect for the time first time ever. No vitamin or mineral deficiencies.

vivian, thanks for the thanks!! LOL I am doing the alkaline/acid lifestyle and I know that their are other cures but as you say, there is no money in cures, just in treating you with pills or doctor visits. My doctor is very understanding and I brought this question up to him and the answer he gave was " because there is no money to support research for alternative medicine cures, they have not been proven to work" He did however read the books I sent him and was so impressed he sent them to the head of dietry medicine at the university he teaches at.

Hurray for you! I am a long term T2 diabetic and manage this through lifestyle and the practice of what I call "kitchen medicine". I had to research this myself including what supplements to take and how to use food as my medicine as well as finding ways to include regular exercise as a normal part of my everyday life. Stress management is also very important and can be challenging. I mostly live off the "medical grid", & I've not found any health care provider on the "grid" who will give a nod of approval regarding what I do. I've also wondered as to why alternative medicine/lifestyle isn't advocated more & all I've come up with is this: 1) this requires a lifetime commitment & most people won't stick with it and 2) the "medical grid" makes money off of keeping you on drugs, not on curing you. I take no prescription meds & I've been doing this successfully for years & I absolutely LOVE it !!!
