I'm T2 and have managed it thru diet & exercise. Fasting BS is usually high but A1C is 5.6. What can I expect if I become pregnant?

I would first align with an obstetrician who specializes in high risk pregnancies which includes mothers with diabetes. Your doctor or NP/Midwife will watch your blood sugars carefully, and insulin may be necessary. Pregnancy and the hormones associated with pregnancy can cause some insulin resistance and this is why insulin may be needed. This is a safe way to make sure you and your baby stay healthy. Whatever your health care team decides frequent blood glucose monitoring will be required, and of course healthy eating is a must! It seems like you are more than ready for any challenge. Today diabetes and pregnancy are a common theme and healthy babies and moms are the norm!!! Good luck!
