A friend with type 2 has recently begun to develop sores on her hands and arms which seem to get larger instead of healing. What might be the cause?

It is hard to say the exact cause; it could be bacterial, fungal or even a contact dermatitis due to a skin allergy. It definitely should be checked by a physician, as patients with diabetes are more prone to infection, especially if they are not well controlled.
