Overall cinnamon used as a food is safe. The usual dose is 1/2 teaspoon a day. Limited studies have been done, but my latest sources report no side effects and indicate that cinnamon may decrease blood sugars by helping the body to use insulin better. Caution is needed when taken with drugs that stimulate insulin production ( which includes both Januvia and Starlix). There are no reports of kidney damage from taking cinnamon. Always let your doctor know about all the medications you are taking including supplements, herbals and vitamins. Good luck.
