Infected pump infusion site... will this go away on its own?
Asked By: boondockoutlaw

Background Info Hide
Okay, I have two infected pump sites. Both are right new two each other on the top of my right leg. I have used this area of my body several times before, with no issues. I took the first site out after some pretty good pain, right after pulled it out I noticed a fairly big lump under the skin, I immediatly squeezed alot of white and yellow liquids out. I cleaned and I changed the site. The next day noticed a bigger than 50 cent piece pink circle around the old site. I squeezed more "gunk" out. The next day the pink circle was gone but the lump under the skin remained (albeit smaller), witha new dark red small circle around site. Moving on, now I pulled the next site out to find similar issue as first site but a much larger lump. I follow same procedure and squeeze out as much "gunk" as i could today. I changed the site to my stomach. My question is WILL THIS GO AWAY ON ITS OWN?

Any infection on the skin requires medical attention because with diabetes the infection may not heal properly. I would have your health care team look at this so that if they feel an antibiotic is necessary you can start treatment. That may not be the case, but always err on the side of caution here my friend. Good luck!
