Vision complications can occur with diabetes. Early diagnosis and treatment can stop vision loss. The American Diabetes Association (ADA)encourages people with diabetes to get a dilated eye exam at least once each year to detect signs of eye disease early.

Improvements in blood glucose (sugar) control can slow the progression of the diabetes complications. Your cousin's doctor can discuss appropriate treatment options.
