Type 2 onset at pregnancy?

35 yrs old. At 10 weeks pregnant fasting glucose test showed 202. No blood test indicated diabetes before pregnancy. AC1 5.2, now check numbers myself 4 times day, all normal. They are telling me I am Type 2 not gestational and will have it the rest of my life. Is this true? What are the statistics of women developing during pregnancy have it after?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Type 2 diabetes can occur any time. Elevated blood glucose (sugar) early during pregnancy might indicate type 2 diabetes. Both type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes are managed basically the same way. Both require an individualized meal and exercise plan along with frequent blood glucose monitoring for careful blood glucose control.

After delivery, testing your blood glucose level will tell you if you have type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes.
