Is there a conection between Celiac disease and type 2 diabetes?
Asked By: celticdee

Background Info Hide
I've been diagnosed with a gluten allergy though not with Celiac disease. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about a year and a half ago. So I was wondering if there was any connection between the two.

Thanks for asking dLife.

There is no correlation between type 2 diabetes and celiac disease at the present time. The prevalence of celiac disease among people with type 2 diabetes is the same as for the general population...which is about 1 percent.

dLife expert Lara Rondinelli, RD, LDN, CDE, author of the column Everyday Eating, discusses the connection between diabetes and celiac disease here.

Take care.
