Our oldest son, age 8, was diagnosed with Type 1 a year ago. Last week, Collin, went from 55.4 to 54.8 pounds. I will weigh him again in the morning, but he's been spilling ketones at a rate of .2 for the past two weeks. His BG fasting has been in the 90s to 113. No glucose is showing in his urine. What is causing the weight loss and ketones?

With the onset of diabetes, fasting BG levels go up last, post-prandial BG goes up first.l I would suggest testing your son's post meal blood glucose, then report back to your health care team. Early diagnosis is crucial. I have two sons with diabetes, and they are grown and doing great. I hope all goes well with you and your family. Let me know how you make out!
