Hi coltsfan702
As someone who is newly diagnosed, there is so much information you may not have been aware is on our site. You specifically asked about basic rules for eating. Have you read our information Diabetes Menu Planning? If not, check it out here.
In addition, you may want to check out Amy Tenderich's recent column on carbohydrates, which generated a lot of questions among our readers. Amy has responded to them here as well. You can read Amy Tenderich's column now.
We also have recipes, a columnist who writes on food issues, just a wealth of information! There truly is more than meets the eye when you sign on to our site so dig deep and we're sure you will find much valuable information.
After going through all these pages, you may find you have a specific question you still need to ask. We highly recommend that for your specific issues, you ask your doctor whenever possible. If you do not already have a CDE - certified diabetes educator - you may want to consider getting one. Our resources link can help you locate someone in your area. A CDE is an excellent resource for you when it comes to food and nutrition. They can walk you through what you need for your specific concerns and help you tailor a diet to fit your needs. You can see our dLife Diabetes Locator list here.
We hope you find something in these pages to help you get started on your way. Be sure to come back and visit the dLife community to talk with others who have diabetes. Often there are tips that you may find useful as you manage your diabetes life.
Be well!
