Dear reader. If you are having high blood sugars frequently, you need to meet with your diabetes education team and physician and look for patterns. Testing your blood sugars more often for a week or so will provide a good insight into what is happening with your blood sugars. Keeping a diet intake diary is also very helpful. At my practice, we prefer to use patterns of blood sugars to tell us how to correct the problem rather than give more insulin every time you are high. This can result in overlapping insulin actions and often means wide variations in blood sugars. We also advise not taking short acting insulin at bedtime.
