There are many potential reasons for you to feel short of breath, tired, and weak, and it is important to discuss these symptoms with your Doctor. Is it also important to become your own “private detective.” Things you may want to notice include: The time of day when your symptoms occur; if your symptoms are sporadic or consistent; foods you have eaten over the previous 24 to 48 hours; if the symptoms occur after eating certain foods or food groups; how your blood glucose responds; if certain activities or situations trigger the symptoms; if your symptoms occur after taking certain medications; or if the symptoms occur in similar environments. Low blood glucose and the rebound effect could cause the symptoms you describe. Food allergies and sensitivities could also cause shortness of breath and weakness. Undetected gluten sensitivity, or outright Celiac disease is increasingly common amongst people with Type 1 diabetes and should be considered. . . even if your lab reports are negative. Thyroid problems could also contribute to your symptoms, and Anemia is yet another potential cause. A thorough evaluation by an Endocrinologist who specializes in diabetes and other endocrine disorders, as well as a visit with your dietician can help you discover the cause. Best to you in your search for answers!

Lesep21971: I have been short winded for a year or so and always sooo tired. A friend asked if I had heart problems. So I pressed my doc about the problems and he sent me to a cardiologist. After tests, I learned I have 'leaky heart valves'. I have had type 2 for about 4-5 years, and so far, no meds. Cholesterol and B/P meds have helped those. But the tiredness continues at times. Hang in there Betts

OK. Ignore the expert advice. If you are experiencing SOB (Shortness of Breath), you need to call 911. This can be a symptom of cardiac problems, as well as the dizziness, and weakness. I am a paramedic and have actually had to save patients from their doctors b/c doctors will have patients with chest pain come to their office instead of having them call 911. DUH. You need to go to the ER!!!! I don't want to scare you, but I also want to make sure you are okay. Don't drive yourself or have somebody else drive you. If something happens on the way, what are they going to do and if you pass out (do you really want to put a spouse/friend/relative in that position?!), or "CLASS OUT" (i.e. cardiac arrest) and you're driving, you could kill other people. My dad is a runner and thought "I can't have heart problems.!" Yeah, well, he had double bypass 3 years ago, despite having perfect cholesterol, blood pressure, and being in excellent physical shape. SOB, weakness, tired are a classic triad of cardiac insufficiency. (i.e. your heart is unable to pump enough blood or the coronary arteries are not getting enough blood) AGAIN, GO TO THE ER NOW!!!!!!!!
