Background Info Hide
My wrist are always swollen but the rest of my body goes down after a couple of days. My blood sugar levels are not where they need to be. Also I get frequent constipation and sometimes the swelling seems to go down after I go to the bathroom.

Thanks for writing dLife. Your question is very good and there could be several reasons for the swelling that you describe, In some, there can be some fluid retention when insulin therapy is started for diabetes control. However, there are other reasons that you notice swelling which must be evaluated by your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. Reasons can include food intake (especially high sodium foods), kidney function, heart disease and other medications that you may be taking. The constipation may or may not be related, however this is also an important issue to discuss with your physician for appropriate treatment, as there can also be several reasons, including high blood sugar levels that can contribute to intestinal problems. Along with seeing your physician, also consider seeing a registered dietitian/certified diabetes educator for an evaluation and assessment of your diet and food intake which may have a major influence on the problems you describe. Best of luck to you!
