Hello TgonSorek: Thank you for bringing your concern to dLife. Are you inquiring of the herbal supplement area? The area of study you inquire, (I think) is 'Complementary and Alternative Medicine', (CAM). I'm certain you know the drill, "before you embark on any change in medications, additions or omissions, I strongly encourage you to discuss this with your PCP helping to manage your health conditions, (diabetes, blood clotting condition and blood pressure, the Cardiologist, PCP, Endocrine). Today, there are >400 herbs known to lower blood glucose levels and some that actually raise levels, hence the need for medical management. Herbal efficacy and safety are at the center of their controversy. Some herbs are
  • effective in some while in-ineffective in others, (our livers, individual metabolism are very intricate), the
  • purity
  • concentration of packaged herbs is
  • not regulated and maybe
  • inconsistent in concentration. Some herbs and plants lower blood glucose levels through a variety of responses. Guar Gum decreases the absorption of food and may increase the feeling of fullness, as to enhance weight loss, (individual response). Ginseng has the potential to increase metabolism, however, can add weight from increased muscle growth-(individual). Fiber intake can be increased in your meal plan be using fenugreek seeds-(fiber/hydrations concerns). Safe dosage/use should be a guide, I have included the website, which has a natural database on the usage of herbs and supplements and safety issues, some of these supplements are regulated by state practice acts; check with your local guidelines. The need for rigorous research is still emphasized in this area of CAM primarily from the standpoint of effective use for these therapies. Cinnamon sticks in green tea, sound OKay.Click here to read it. Be your best, regards Sue
