"Is there any research showing that shots of Novolin lower one's immune system? "
Asked By: orecal
Category: Insulin

Background Info Hide
I started shots a year ago and prior to that rarely ever got sick. Since starting the shots, I'm sick every month. I don't believe the timing is coincidental and wonder if anyone else has complained of this and why it would cause me to be sick so much.

Hello,

Thanks for asking dLife! There is currently no documented evidence that Novolin R injections will lower your immune system. However, everyone’s body may respond to the addition of a medication (such as Novolin) differently. The most common side effects of Novolin R include:

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Rash
  • Redness, swelling, and itching at the injection site
  • Skin thickening or pitting at injection site (lipodystrophy)
  • Swelling of your hands and feet
  • Vision changes
  • Low Potassium (hypokalemia)

I would recommend talking with your physician to see if there is an underlying cause for your frequent infections. It is also important to establish a “sick day” plan with your physician on how to best monitor your blood sugar and take your insulin when you have an infection.
