Hello JacoBena: I'm sorry for the confusion, reading those labels can be very-very confusing. If I understand, you read,*Total Carbohydrates= 42 grams/per the product serving size. *, You do not need to add in 'others', fiber, other carbs are informational, the key to reading the Nutrition Facts Label, it's the..."*Total Carbohydrates___grams/per the serving size listed at the top of the label*", this is the amount to incorporate into your individual meal plan, the total grams include all the 'other' detailed carbs, while fiber is good, it is listed separate per the FDA's criteria of how the 'Nutrition Facts' label should appear. Focus on the *Total Carbs___grms* per the listed serving size of the product.

Counting the "Total Carbohydrates" the grams listed on labels are pretty straight forward, (although there is a great deal of miscellaneous information include there). Items such as potatoes, corn, apples in the produce section, how do you calculate the carbs there? Women have built in measures; your fist is equal to 1 cup or 30 grams of carb, (mashed potatoes, corn, noodles/pasta, slightly less than 1 cup for rice, (denser carb). A small Macintosh apple, (the 2" across) is 15 grams of carb, (so the large Delicious, Fuji, Gala large apples could be 45-60 grams of carb-(mother nature offers a large variety of sizes). If it's pizza, thick-thin crust, my question, "how does it compare to the typical slice of bread", (loaf of white bread-generic variety), which is 15 grams of carb on average. Your thumb is about an ounce, or 2 Tablespoons, and your palm is about 3-4 oz. (I'm only seen one movie that someone carried a scale to the restaurant). Be your best, hope this helps. Regards Sue
