"as soon as i tell someone that i have diabetes, they freak out and don't know what to do, therefore leaving me very upset. any advice?"

Dear inspiredbyjonas, Type 2 diabetes is being diagnosed more often in younger people. This kind of diabetes is very different than the type 1 diabetes that Nick Jonas has. I am wondering why your friends even know you have diabetes? Type 2 is often controlled at your stage with oral medications rather than insulin. Sensible eating would not in itself tip anyone that you have diabetes. There is nothing to be embarrassed about having diabetes. Just tell your friends that you are trying to improve your diet and exercise more. Be sure you carry a glucose containing snack with you in case you feel you are going low. If someone really is interested in learning about diabetes, refer them to this website.
