I take 18 units of Novolog at dinnertime and 40 units of Lantus at bedtime.

Thank-you for contacting dLIfe.com. Let's look at the action time of the meds you are taking. THe Novolog will begin working in 5-15 minutes be at it's peak within 1 hour and be out of your system by 3 hours. The Lantus starts taking effect without peaks after one hour. and can last up to 24 hours.

So take a look at your blood glucose levels 2 hours after dinner from your first bite. Most of my patients take Lantus between 9 and 10 pm before bed. Each patient is different. The rule is though that with taking a basal insulin take it the same time each day.

The effectiveness of the Lantus should be seen in your fasting glucose. This info should give you assistance in the best time for good self management.

I split my Lantus up in 2 shots one at 1100 pm the other at 1000am, this has worked great for me, plus I take 15 units at each meal of Humalog, my sugars dont go over 180, if that. of course I have a good meal plan and eat low amounts of flours.
