I have been a diabetic for 44 years. I have been on an insulin pump for 3 years. I may have to go back on shots but I that would be my last desire. Any info about infusion sites would be helpful.

dear dare- thank-you for contacting dLife. You did not mention the pump you were using or the infusion set brand. I would like to suggest that you call the company and ask them what is in the adhesive and the infusion pad. Could you have a latex allergy? I would ask the company if they have a hypoallergenic infusion kit you could sample.

Here are a few questions to think about.:

  • Does it happen no matter where you place your needle and infusion kit.
  • Are you using a barrier product to enhance stickiness?
  • HAve you tried another brand of infusion sets. Some are allergic to the catheter that the insulin is infusing through and not the pad.

Since you are happy with your pump which is great, please contact the company and see what they can do to help you.

Stay well and stay self managed.

Hello there! Have you tried using what is called "I.V. Prep"? I use an I.V. Prep each time I change my site. There is a couple of reasons why we use this. Here they are: cleans and sanitizes the site, protects your skin from the adhesive, and helps the catheter stick to your skin better. Otherwise you could have a problem wit the adhesive on the catheter. Best of wishes to you!
