"What are some high-carb, low-calorie snacks for excercising? "
Asked By: annalisav

Background Info Hide
I know that dlife has a list of LOW-carb snacks, but what about HIGH carb, low-cal foods? The reason I bring this up is because while excercising I sometimes get low. It gets quite annoying when I need to eat something when I'm trying to burn off the calories! The only high carb (somewhat) low cal snack I can think of is a banana. Any suggestions besides sugar pills? Thanks!

Dear A- Thank-you for contacting dLife.com with your interesting questions. Keep in mind that no matter what the carb is it still produces 4 calories. So the higher the carbs in a portion the higher the calories. What makes the differences is the rapid fashion in which the food is digested.

So if you drink 4 ounces of juices for 15 gms of carbs 60 calories with no fiber it will go though you very quickly and have a rapid increase in glucose. If you chose a high fiber piece of bread with a tsp of fat free cream cheese for 80 calories 14 gms of carbs you will have a more sustaining glucose. It will take quite a bit longer for the complex carb to go through your system.

Try a variety of snacks to see what works best for you. Perhaps make your own snack bar or mix with nuts, raisins, dates.

Keep up the fantastic work on finding the best way to self manage.
