"i was born with gastroschisis have wondered if there might be some connection to my type one Diabetes?"

they kept looking for a secondary birth defect when i was born however they did not find one and my mother was Gestational diabetic

Hello,

Thanks for asking dLife.

Gastroschisis is a birth defect. The infant's intestines stick out of the body through a defect on one side of the umbilical cord.

Surgery can repair the defect. The surgeon will put the bowel back into the abdomen and close the defect. Gastroschisis is not linked to gestational diabetes or to the development of type 1 diabetes.
